A mind-reading volunteer investigating a girl’s dangerous thirteenth personality risks becoming its next target.
The story
Yukari, a girl gifted with the ability to read other people’s minds, is helping victims of the 1995 Kobe earthquake when she meets Chihiro, a young girl with multiple personalities. Each personality makes Chihiro behave differently, but one in particular alarms Yukari: the thirteenth, called Isola, a literary name taken from Tales of the Pale and Eerie Moon. As Yukari investigates Isola and tries to understand the threat surrounding Chihiro, she faces the possibility that the personality may kill anyone who gets too close—including Yukari herself.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Yukari is a girl with the gift of reading other people’s minds. While helping victims of the 1995 Kobe earthquake, Yukari meets Chihiro, a young girl who suffers from multiple personality disorder. Each of Chihiro’s personalities makes her behave differently. However, the one that causes the greatest concern is Chihiro’s thirteenth personality, “christened” Isola, a literary name taken from Tales of the Pale and Eerie Moon. Isola may go so far as to kill anyone who gets too close, putting the life of Yukari herself, who is investigating her, in danger.
