Full plot (contains spoilers)
After abandoning his life as a wealthy lawyer, Sadik has chosen to live with a carefree disregard for everything, in order to avoid yet another disappointment from those close to him. He lives alone in a rundown apartment and makes a living as a private investigator for anyone willing to pay him well. A mother looking for her son, who has been missing without a trace for many days, gives him a particularly lucrative case, forcing the detective to plunge into the murky waters of the Turkish underworld until he uncovers a web of crimes and blackmail. The boy he is supposed to find is not the docile lamb the woman described, and has become involved with local criminals in a racket involving human trafficking, prostitution, and brutal murders. But his “colleagues” do not seem to be involved in a disappearance that has taken everyone by surprise. Though Sadik is attacked, threatened, and kidnapped, he keeps looking for the young man. The investigation grows more complicated, and new leads bring him face to face with elements of his own past. The main story intertwines with other stories that emerge over the course of the film, connected to Sadik’s personal and professional life. During the investigation, Sadik maintains some characteristic daily habits, such as counting numbers while he waits, drinking only milk, and repeatedly watching the 1969 film “Marlowe,” with which he converses during his reflections. Through flashbacks and clues, the reasons for his departure from the legal profession emerge, and his conflict between justice and legality takes shape. As events unfold, Sadik works toward a resolution that is not merely good but also just, becoming actively involved both in the main plot and in the related events that stem from it.
