The story
In the small Extremaduran town of La Joya, power rests with Don Pedro Luis Jarrapellejos, a local boss who controls people and estates and appoints or dismisses mayors and governors. Their conflict forms the story’s initial tension, setting individual defiance against the influence of a man who seems to have the town’s institutions and residents in his hands.
