A newspaper editor sends thirteen attractive women to a European beauty pageant, leaving two companions to manage the lively journey to Nice.

The story

A newspaper magazine editor organizes a readers’ poll to choose thirteen especially attractive women, who are to travel to Nice for the “Miss Europe” beauty pageant. Johannes “Jean” Burghoff is assigned to accompany them, but seeks help from his best friend, Johannes “Jonny” Klettke, since one man can hardly keep thirteen sought-after women in check on a sleeper train. Their trip along the Côte d’Azur brings a stream of complications as the pair try to ensure that all the women arrive safely. A no-nonsense interpreter, Grete Patschke, and Wally, a cigarette seller, add to the challenges of the journey.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

The editor of a major newspaper magazine has launched a readers’ poll to select 13 especially attractive women. Johannes “Jean” Burghoff is to travel with these attractive young women to Nice, where a beauty pageant for the title of “Miss Europe” is to be held. Since one man can hardly keep 13 sought-after women in check by himself on a sleeper train, Jean asks his best buddy, Johannes “Jonny” Klettke, to accompany him. On the way to the Côte d’Azur, the two have their hands full making sure all the ladies arrive safe and sound, quirks and all. The presence of the no-nonsense interpreter Grete Patschke and Wally, the cigarette seller, does not exactly make the journey any easier. In the end, amid the sparkling carnival in Nice, there are three happy endings for three couples who meet there.
