A young man and his stepfather embark on a perilous journey to a mysterious island to rescue his long-lost grandfather.
The story
Four years after his adventure in the center of the Earth, 17-year-old Sean Anderson is caught by police following a high-speed dirt bike pursuit. His stepfather, Hank Parsons, intervenes to keep him out of juvenile detention. Sean had broken into a satellite facility to boost a coded signal he believes was sent by his long-missing grandfather, Alexander. Hank helps him decode the message, which leads them to three classic novels—Treasure Island, Gulliver's Travels, and The Mysterious Island—and a set of coordinates pointing to a location in the South Pacific. They hire a local pilot to fly to the coordinates, where a storm crashes them onto a mysterious island filled with unusual fauna.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After decoding a signal from his missing grandfather, Sean Anderson and his stepfather Hank travel to a remote location in the South Pacific. They are caught in a storm and crash on the Mysterious Island, where they find Sean's grandfather, Alexander. The island is a mystical place that rises and sinks every 70 years, and they discover it is sinking in days. To escape, they must find the submarine Nautilus in an underwater cave. During the journey, they encounter giant bees and are attacked by birds. Gabato, the pilot, goes missing in a volcano while the others search for the submarine. They eventually find the Nautilus, and while Sean and Hank face a giant electric eel to start the sub, the others are rescued from the volcano. They successfully escape just as the island sinks. Months later, Gabato runs a tourist business on the Nautilus, and the group prepares for their next adventure.
