A family vacation in Portugal spirals into a frantic search after the grandchildren go missing.

The story

Following the troubles of the previous film, Philippe and Marilou travel to Portugal to inspect their vacation home, accompanied by cousin Olivier, former daughter-in-law Léa, her young son Casa, and grandchildren Félix and Juliette. The house is unfinished, a donkey named Bob has settled on the property, and the construction worker Alves has abandoned the site. When Alves unexpectedly returns and promises to complete the work, the family goes to buy supplies. A misunderstanding sends them chasing after him, and in the confusion they leave Félix and Juliette behind in a store parking lot. The family must now deal with the fallout and try to find the children.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Following their troubles in the previous film, Philippe and Marilou go to Portugal to see their vacation home. They are accompanied by Olivier, their cousin, who is in charge of the project; Léa, their former daughter-in-law; Casa, her little boy; and their grandchildren, Félix and Juliette. When they arrive, the retirees discover that the house is still under construction, that a donkey (named “Bob” after Bob Dylan) has taken up residence on their land, and that Alves, the construction worker, has abandoned the site. Olivier tries unsuccessfully to contact him, and the family settles on the first floor, the only part that is nearly finished. Philippe takes the opportunity to discreetly give Olivier the ring he plans to give Marilou for their wedding anniversary. While trying to find a hiding place for it, Olivier puts the ring on the kitchen table, and Bob swallows it. The next morning, to everyone’s surprise, Alves shows up at the house and swears on his honor that he will finish the work. They all go to a DIY store to buy supplies, and Casa poops in the display toilets. Hoping nobody saw them, Philippe and Olivier leave with the little boy. Once the items have been paid for, Alves heads in the opposite direction from the construction site, and, thinking he has cheated them, the French family chase after the Portuguese man. It all ends in an accident, but Alves, who has no idea what is going on, disappears, and the family realizes that in their haste to leave, they forgot Juliette and Félix in the store parking lot. Back there, security guards use the surveillance cameras to find Juliette and Félix, who have been taken away by an old lady. The family is nevertheless ordered to leave when security discovers what the little boy did in the toilets. Not knowing what to do, the French go to the police station to launch an investigation to arrest Alves and find the children. On the way back, Cécile and Arnaud, their daughter and son-in-law, who are supposed to join them, call to ask how they are. Philippe, Marilou, and Olivier stage a scene to keep them from discovering the truth, but, through a series of coincidences, Casa nearly gets hit by cars. Since the incident happened in front of a police officer, and due to a misunderstanding, Philippe and Olivier are taken to the station. Shocked, Léa decides to leave with her son, but eventually comes back and makes up with Marilou so they can find a solution. The next day, Alves arrives with his tools and resumes the work. Léa informs Marilou, who has meanwhile gone to the station, that they were mistaken and the worker had been sincere. After Philippe and Olivier are released from police custody, they decide to form two groups: Philippe and Marilou on one side, and Olivier and Léa on the other, to find the children. Another chase begins when the retirees happen to spot the old lady’s car with their grandchildren inside, but the French end up off the road. Meanwhile, Olivier and Léa have to go to the airport to delay Cécile and Arnaud, but, to the cousin’s surprise, the two children are there. Juliette and Félix explain that Rosa, the old lady, tried to help them, but all their various attempts failed. Knowing that their parents would be at the airport that day, they asked Rosa to take them there. Back at the house, Cécile realizes that her parents have lied to her and flies into a violent rage, even refusing to let them look after her children again. Marilou decides to leave, and Philippe joins her on the beach, where he gives her the ring. Since the ring box is empty, Marilou pretends to be surprised so as not to disappoint him. Cécile calls her great-grandmother for advice, and the old woman makes her understand that the house is not for Philippe or Marilou, but for their children. Cécile reconciles with them, and the whole family helps Alves finish the work. Olivier manages to get the ring back, and Philippe can finally celebrate his anniversary with Marilou. At last in peace, the retirees receive a call from the police commissioner handling their complaint, who tells them that Alves has been arrested and that their grandchildren have been found. The French explain things to each other, and everyone can finally enjoy their vacation in Portugal.
