A plastic surgeon's elaborate lie about his marital status leads to a chaotic romantic entanglement involving his office manager and a local teacher.
The story
Years after a traumatic wedding day, Danny Maccabee is a successful plastic surgeon in Los Angeles who uses a wedding ring to feign being in an unhappy marriage, allowing him to pursue women without commitment. His only confidante is his office manager, Katherine Murphy. When Danny meets Palmer, a sixth-grade math teacher, and they spend the night together, Palmer discovers the ring and assumes Danny is cheating on his wife. To maintain his deception, Danny concocts a lie about his 'wife' and convinces Katherine to pose as the woman. The scheme spirals out of control as they are forced to involve others in the fabrication to keep the lie alive.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Danny Maccabee, a plastic surgeon who uses a fake 'unhappy marriage' persona to date women, meets Palmer, a math teacher. When Palmer finds his ring, Danny claims he is getting divorced from a woman named Devlin Adams. He convinces his office manager, Katherine, to pose as Devlin. To keep the ruse going, they involve Katherine's children and Danny's cousin, Eddie, who is traveling in disguise. While on a trip to Hawaii, the truth begins to unravel. Katherine becomes impressed by Danny, and Danny develops feelings for Katherine. When Palmer asks Danny to marry her after hearing his plans, he initially agrees. However, during a confrontation, Danny realizes he is in love with Katherine. He refuses to marry Palmer and instead confesses his feelings to Katherine, leading to them getting married while Palmer finds a new partner.
