Katie Fforde: Das Schweigen der Männer (2016)

Howard Harper is keeping several secrets from his wife, Lynne, even though in a week they are due to set sail on their boat, the “First Love,” and travel around the world—a dream they have shared for years. Howard has a grown-up daughter named Samantha who lives in New York. He only found out about her six months ago, and he has not told his wife. He is also hiding his heart problems from Lynne. His doctor, Dr. Bronstein, sends him to a colleague in New York. Lynne suspects he is having an affair because he is traveling to New York so suddenly and they have not had sex for months, though the reason is that the medication Howard has to take for his heart has affected him. When she answers the phone Howard left behind at home and hears a young woman’s voice on the answering machine, she takes it as evidence for her suspicions and follows her husband to New York. There, she deliberately moves in with Samantha, who was just looking for a new roommate. After Howard successfully undergoes heart surgery, he sees Lynne and Samantha together. As he approaches them, Lynne runs away and flies home as quickly as she can, where she sells their boat—and with it, the dream she and Howard shared. But Howard follows her and is finally able to clear up all the misunderstandings in a conversation. The couple reconcile, and Lynne’s sister Ann-Margreth and their mutual friend Robert arrange for the sale of the boat to be reversed.
