Full plot (contains spoilers)
Charlotte Plentley, a successful handbag designer, learns from her husband Alec Plentley, a successful architect, that he has turned down a wonderful career opportunity because, for the first time in their year-and-a-half of marriage, he wants to spend more time with Charlotte. But the young woman is extremely busy with her work at the moment. Nevertheless, she takes a few days off to go away with Alec, much to the displeasure of her boss, Suzan. Even on vacation, however, Charlotte cannot do without her phone and business calls. After the young woman suddenly experiences temporary paralysis in her legs, the couple goes to a hospital and then to Alec’s parents, who own an apple orchard near the clinic. The doctor confronts Charlotte with the devastating diagnosis that she has multiple sclerosis. Since she has to take it easy, she and Alec are once again very close for a few days. Some time later, Charlotte hitchhikes back home. A conversation with the trucker, who had also faced a difficult decision and says that when one door closes another opens, helps her decide to cut back on her work from now on. She resigns, hoping that her assistant Jennifer, who has consistently supported her lately as well, will become her successor. But Suzan and all the employees refuse to let that happen and promise that they will make it possible for Charlotte to continue working despite her illness.
