Full plot (contains spoilers)

The Falk family has two children: eleven-year-old Merle and fifteen-year-old Lea, who is going through puberty. As Merle’s school performance continues to decline, her class teacher advises that she be taken out of school. After her pediatrician referred her to a child psychologist, she was diagnosed with ADD, attention deficit disorder. Although the parents, Roman and Kathrin, initially rejected medication, they tried to address their younger daughter’s academic difficulties through therapy and learning programs at home. The older daughter soon feels neglected and tries to run away to Berlin, to her biological father. At the same time, Kathrin breaks down under the enormous strain at home. Kathrin’s decision to try medication after all leads to an argument between the spouses. The film ends with the family having visited a child psychologist and asking about medication.
