The story
A quarrel between two brothers leads to one brother being killed, setting off a crisis in their household. The surviving brother flees, but his mother urges him to surrender to the law. The mother and her two daughters-in-law live on three floors of the same house, and each tries to manage the problems now confronting her. The film follows events unfolding among the family as they respond to the aftermath of the killing.

A House on Forty-First Street is the story of a quarrel between two brothers that leads to one of them being killed. This is the beginning of a crisis: the brother who committed the murder flees, but his mother persuades him to turn himself in to the law. The mother of this family and her two daughters-in-law, who live on three floors of one house, each try to shoulder the problems that have arisen in their lives on their own. Along the way, events unfold that are told over the course of the film.
