Full plot (contains spoilers)
Wuppertal police commissioner Clemens “King” Frowein is suspended from the police force. A little later, he puts a new idea into practice and launches a website called bullenjagd.de, where members of the public can upload photos of police officers committing traffic violations. But it is only when he starts his new job as a penguin keeper at the Wuppertal Zoo that he becomes happy. Just as he thinks his life is finally taking a turn for the better, he receives news that one of his former police colleagues has been found at the bottom of the Tippen-Tappen-Tönchen staircase with a broken neck. Because King’s successor, Commissioner Elbroich, believes it was an accidental death, while King is convinced it was murder, King begins investigating the case. He is helped by a group of rather eccentric characters, including two of his work colleagues, the gay bouncer Wolfken and pathologist Nicole. His suspicions are reinforced by two more mysterious deaths of the same kind. As he searches for the killer, King repeatedly puts himself in danger and comes under the murderer’s scrutiny. After tracking down a strange cult and venturing into the city’s seedy districts, with their boxing clubs and pubs, all the while being followed by local reporter Schönfeld, King finally solves the murder case.
