The story
Forty-five-year-old Kristian, known as Kesse, is a third-generation fisherman living in wind-swept Hirtshals in North Jutland. As changes in the fishing industry put pressure on fishermen, he struggles to keep his livelihood and hold off his creditors. Increasingly shady methods bring him into contact with Gerd, a marine biologist from Copenhagen. Though their lives and backgrounds differ, the two fall in love. Kesse must then confront a difficult choice: continue fighting for the familiar life he has built around fishing, or take the chance to begin again.
