Full plot (contains spoilers)
In the late 2010s, Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh and Naoise Ó Cairealláin live in Belfast's Gaeltacht Quarter. Naoise's father, Arlo, is a former republican paramilitary living in hiding. After Liam is arrested for drug possession and refuses to speak English, JJ Ó Dochartaigh, a music teacher, helps him and suggests forming an Irish-language hip-hop group called 'Kneecap'. They begin performing, but JJ adopts the persona 'DJ Próvaí' to protect his teaching career. As they gain popularity, they face threats from a dissident group, 'Radical Republicans Against Drugs' (RRAD), who bomb their studio. Despite JJ's initial desire to leave, he rejoins the group after a hit song is aired following a protest by Naoise's mother, Dolores. At a major gig, the group plays a recording of RRAD members, leading to a shootout. Liam is arrested, and Naoise is kidnapped by RRAD. Arlo appears, shoots the RRAD members (revealing two were undercover agents), and is arrested. The film ends with Kneecap's continued success despite Unionist opposition, while JJ begins teaching Irish-language classes.
