Full plot (contains spoilers)
Florian König is in his early twenties and lives with his mother. He helps her whenever he can. At the weekly newspaper “Bad Ausseer Bote,” he reports on a foundling left in the hospital’s baby hatch in Bad Aussee, and is subsequently fired by editor-in-chief Anton Grimmeisen. But when publisher Caroline Moosbichler hears about it, she demands that Florian be reinstated immediately. He is to keep following the story. In the process, he discovers that the mother acted out of sheer desperation, and uncovers the love between Jutta Lechner and Thomas Gschnitzer. The child was born of that love. Unfortunately, their families are feuding and stand in the way of their happiness. Thomas has emigrated to Canada. Florian publishes the story under the title “Romeo and Juliet on the Mountain Pasture” and manages to settle the families’ age-old feud. In the end, he gets his own column, “King of Hearts.”
