Kriegerin des Lichts (2001)

This is a portrait of Brazilian human rights activist, sculptor, and writer Yvonne Bezerra de Mello, who campaigns politically for the rights of street children in Rio de Janeiro. At its center is her organization Projeto Uerê (U-Erê = Children of Light), in the Maré slum in northern Rio de Janeiro, which offers refuge to some of the city’s poorest children and helps them break out of the vicious cycle of violence, drugs, and illness.
