Full plot (contains spoilers)
Fatima is 16 and wears a veil (hijab). Her culture expects it, and her mother, Amina, makes her wear it. Born in Calabria to Muslim parents, the girl experiences all the conflicts and emotions typical of her age, but feels she is not like her peers: she is shut away in her loneliness, constantly out of place. Then one day her physical education teacher, Michele Scimone, invites his students to sign up for the Saint Anthony’s Marathon. For Fatima, it is the first real opportunity she has to seize. But for the teacher, a withdrawn, depressed former runner, tormented by an unresolved past and a failed relationship with Anna following the death of their son, the veil Fatima wears is a source of prejudice. It will be the beginning of a relationship that changes both their lives, as running manages to set them both free.
