The story

At Melun Central Prison, veteran crook Max Lambert meets Pierre Bizet, who tells him of half a billion in gold buried near a small chapel outside Rome. Max’s former partner, Marcel Scandini, arranges their escape. Max poses as a bishop, while Pierre is to pass as his secretary, a priest. They plan to use the Holy Year and its crowds of pilgrims as cover while traveling to Rome to recover the treasure. Their journey takes an unexpected turn when the plane intended to carry them to Rome is hijacked and diverted to Tangier.
