Rachid is a young man of North African descent who drifts from one odd job to another and uses amusing schemes to woo women. With the help of accomplices who pretend to attack the women, he poses as a gallant knight coming to break up the staged fight. One day, the scheme goes wrong: Virginie, the woman they are targeting, manages to defend herself and knock the accomplices to the ground. To make matters worse, the young woman catches the eye of another passerby who has come to intervene: Denis, a young painter from the French Caribbean. Despite this budding romantic rivalry, Rachid and Denis join forces in their seemingly impossible search for an apartment.
