Full plot (contains spoilers)
In Rome between 1979 and 1983, a young man from the working-class suburbs, Remo Guerra, is a police officer by day and, at night, the acknowledged leader of a gang that robs wealthy Romans through violence and threats, in the name of a social redemption otherwise beyond their reach. His “proletarian soul,” unsatisfied with the authority bestowed on him by his role as a guardian of the law, rebels in the only way available to him through his ties to the world of the suburbs: by stealing. In a futile attempt to change course, he and his accomplices open a bar on the outskirts of the city, but even this proves to be a minor episode, since he seems to be entrusting his fate to his eventual capture.
