Full plot (contains spoilers)
Enrique Zambrano (Adrián Ladrón) is an American football fan who enters Santa Martha Penitentiary (Mexico City) facing charges of car theft. Once inside, he does everything he can to become part of the penitentiary’s team, “Los Perros de Santa Martha.” After achieving his goal, he will not only have to play alongside Combate (Andoni Gracia), Palafox (Hernán Mendoza), Quinto (Gabino Rodríguez), El Tripas (Carlos Valencia), and Marrón (Horacio García Rojas), among others, but will also have to “work” for the penitentiary’s administrators and for a figure who, in recent years, became one of the least favored by the nation, yet was protected by President José López Portillo. That figure committed some of the gravest abuses against the people: Arturo Durazo Moreno, then head of the Federal District Department of Police and Transit during that presidential administration, more infamously known as “El Negro,” who used Los Perros. Inside the penitentiary, “Los Perros” were the group in control, above the authority of the guards themselves. They imposed punishments on those who did not respect the code, and were responsible for collecting the list, distributing drugs and entertainment, and, when they were not doing these things or playing on the gridiron, they were released to “work” on the city streets in service of that figure’s twisted, corrupt schemes, committing car thefts and bank robberies, among other crimes.
