Full plot (contains spoilers)

Jacques Laniel, a Montreal police officer, watches as his partner, Thomas Colin, who is also his best friend, is brutally shot dead. When he is refused permission to investigate his partner’s murder, Laniel decides to leave the police force and become a private detective, thinking he will then be free to conduct his own investigation into Thomas’s death. Laniel is also approached by Caroline Osborne, who wants her husband, the writer Zacharie Osborne, to have his strange murder solved. Laniel’s investigation leads him to an apartment building populated by unsettling characters. Quickly realizing that Osborne was not entirely honest, Laniel is gradually led to suspect that the writer’s murder may well be connected to his friend’s killing.
