La Fulgurée (2024)

Lucie and Samuel Carrera celebrate their wedding at the Lac de Guéry inn. David Dorval, the photographer at the ceremony, invites them to pose in the meadows overlooking the lake, which is located in the Monts Dore in Auvergne, when a violent rainstorm hits the group. The newlyweds and five other people take shelter beneath a large tree, which is suddenly struck by lightning. Samuel is killed, but the bride and the other victims survive: they are lightning-strike survivors. Two years later, Lucie works part-time for the National Forests Office from her apartment in Clermont-Ferrand, which she hardly ever leaves. She is visited by Félix Guyon, the owner of the inn, and his sister Irène, who invite her to mark the anniversary of the accident with the other survivors. She explains that since the accident she has been terrified of thunderstorms and constantly checks the “Vigi Orages” website. She also suffers from hypermnesia, recording every detail, even the tiniest ones: once someone with a goldfish’s memory, she now remembers everything, all the time. Lucie, Félix, and Irène meet at the inn with Marta, Félix’s wife; David Dorval, the photographer; and Nouria Bensaid, who used to work at the inn as a seasonal employee. But Nouria disappears during the night. After being alerted, the Clermont-Ferrand investigative unit sends Commander Julien Eider, who had already been on the scene two years earlier when the accident that claimed Samuel’s life took place. Accompanied by Lucie, he finds Nouria’s body at the foot of a waterfall. Marta is then the next to die, in strange circumstances: she is left exposed on a hill in the sun, which she could no longer tolerate after the accident. Then David’s room is found ransacked and covered in blood.
