The story
In a housing estate in the Paris suburbs, the Ronins—a large, organized gang of teenagers—have taken over the synthetic-drug trade after displacing the old guard. As a supposedly perfect planetary alignment approaches, the sky grows increasingly red, fostering an atmosphere of impending catastrophe. Christophe, a former member of the old guard, returns to the estate after prison and reunites with childhood friends Daniel and Joshua. He finds that the Ronins now dominate the neighborhood through violence, hierarchy, and a demanding cult-like order. Christophe’s hardened temperament puts him on a collision course with the new gang, worrying his friends.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
In a housing estate in the Paris suburbs, a large, well-organized gang of teenagers known as the “Ronins” runs a synthetic-drug trade in its own way, after getting rid of the “old guard.” A planetary alignment is approaching, extraordinary because it is “perfect,” according to scientists on the radio. For inexplicable reasons, it makes the sky grow ever redder and creates an atmosphere of impending catastrophe. Against this backdrop, Christophe, one of the old guard, gets out of prison and returns to the estate, where he reunites with two childhood friends, Daniel and Joshua. Determined and hardened by hardship, he discovers that things have changed in his absence. The “Ronins,” extremely violent and menacing, now impose their rule and secure an unchallenged monopoly on the drug trade. Bound by a strict hierarchy and a kind of demanding cult, they transport at night to the roof of one of the estate’s buildings the soil needed to grow a tree, a symbol, in their eyes, of a “new era.” They also proclaim that “after this alignment, the world will never be the same again.” Christophe’s temperament makes a confrontation between the two generations inevitable, to the great concern of his two friends.
