The story
After his marriage falls apart, Heiner returns to work as a miner and moves into the Bullenkloster, a men’s hostel. There he reconnects with former comrades, including Kutter, described as an incorrigible Hitler fan. His new life brings him into contact with Trudi, the hostel’s cleaning woman, and with Jupp, who is also pursuing her. Trudi sets Jupp a condition: because he used to be a boxer, he must return to the ring for her sake. The men’s relationships and rivalries take shape around the hostel and their social outings.

Heiner’s marriage has fallen apart. After the divorce, he returns to work as a miner and moves into a men’s hostel known as the “Bullenkloster.” There he meets several former comrades who have also ended up there, including Kutter, an incorrigible Hitler fan. After an affair with Trudi, the cleaning woman, he heads with his buddies to a nightclub. Jupp is also after Trudi, but she is choosy and demands that he get back in the ring for her sake, since he used to be a boxer. Jupp loses, however, and the winner gets his reward with Trudi. Jupp then turns to alcohol. Meanwhile, Heiner’s ex-wife Gisela has gone back to prostitution. Heiner finds her, and the film ends with the hope of a new family happiness.
