The story

In Bagnolet, lawyer Sofia Belkacem lives with Paul Clément, a drummer in the punk rock band Amadeus 77. Their personalities differ: Sofia is described as conventional, while Paul remains committed to anarchist convictions. Their son, Corentin, nicknamed Coco, attends the closest public school. As he watches classmates leave the public elementary school for the adjoining private school, supposedly for a better education, the parents confront a choice. They must weigh their commitment to school zoning and social diversity against their desire to secure what they consider better schooling for their son.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

In the town of Bagnolet, Sofia Belkacem (Leïla Bekhti), a lawyer, is in a relationship with Paul Clément (Édouard Baer), drummer for the punk rock band Amadeus 77. Their personalities also clash: she is rather conventional, while her partner has always held on to his anarchist convictions. Their son, Corentin “Coco,” attends the nearest public school. He watches his classmates leave the public elementary school for the adjoining private school, in the name of supposedly better education. The parents are torn between respecting the school zoning system in keeping with their ideals of social diversity and wanting to send their son to a private school.
