The story

With most of the police force away in Mayotte amid social unrest, the investigation falls to Juliette Gentil, a judicial police officer on the island, and Zac Bellême, a police officer newly arrived from mainland France. Although Zac has Réunionese roots, he is encountering the island and its traditions anew. As the two officers begin investigating the death, Zac also confronts the island’s history and the continuing presence of slavery’s legacy.
