With no better option, a disillusioned violinist ends up teaching a challenging class at a Parisian middle school.
The story
Almost fifty and disillusioned, Simon is an accomplished violinist who, for lack of a better option, ends up teaching violin to the students in Farid’s class at a Parisian middle school. His rigid teaching methods make for a difficult start and do little to improve his relationships with the challenging students. Arnold, an extremely shy child, is fascinated by the violin, its movements and sounds; for him, the instrument is a revelation. Simon must navigate the difficult start with the class as he tries to teach them violin.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Almost fifty, Simon is an accomplished and disillusioned violinist. For lack of a better option, he ends up at a Parisian middle school teaching violin to the students in Farid’s class. His rigid teaching methods make for a difficult start and do little to improve his relationships with the challenging students. Arnold is fascinated by the violin, its movements and its sounds. For this extremely shy child, it is a revelation. Little by little, through his contact with Arnold’s raw talent and the rest of the class’s joyful energy, Simon comes back to life and rediscovers the joys of music. Will he have enough energy to overcome the obstacles and keep his promise to take the children to play Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade at the Philharmonie?
