The story

Claudio loves Rebecca, but his religious beliefs prevent him from divorcing Cesarina. Meanwhile, Cesarina is having an affair with Claudio’s assistant, Antonino. Their strained marriage draws further danger when Cartenac, an agent of a foreign power, blackmails Cesarina in an effort to obtain the blueprints for Claudio’s new kind of cannon.
