The story
Jean-Gabriel Élisabeth, a West Indian-descended father of three, lives in Créteil with his wife, who is from mainland France. Scraping by on odd jobs and spending much of his time at a local PMU bar, he makes a rash promise to take the whole family on a skiing holiday to please his daughter. The promise carries high stakes: if he fails to keep it, his wife will leave him. With little knowledge of the alpine world, Jean-Gabriel must find a way to make the trip happen, relying on his resourcefulness and the help of his energetic, colorful West Indian mother.
