The story

Biologist Marrot obtains a document proving France’s responsibility—and particularly that of senior official Jean-Philippe Leroi—for the deaths of 140 African children aboard a plane hit by illegally sold French missiles. After Marrot is involved in a “car accident,” his Italian friend and colleague Angela Ravelli goes to Paris to expose the scandal publicly. Leroi intervenes in person to dissuade her, but she persists in her accusations.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

A biologist, Marrot, comes into possession of a document proving France’s responsibility—particularly that of a senior official, Jean-Philippe Leroi—for the deaths of 140 African children, killed aboard their plane by French missiles sold illegally. As soon as he returns, the professor is involved in a “car accident.” An Italian friend and colleague, Angela Ravelli, immediately goes to Paris to publicly expose the scandal, but Leroi intervenes in person to talk her out of it. Despite his intervention, the young woman persists in her accusations and is arrested by the secret services for espionage. Caught up in a conspiracy, she is forced to leave for the United States after agreeing to let the public believe she is a CIA agent. Upon her arrival, she is murdered. Shielded by his minister, Leroi continues his activities openly.
