Full plot (contains spoilers)
Davide, a young psychiatrist, travels to a small town in central Italy to conduct an evaluation, accompanied by his wife, Cristina. The defendant he examines is Maddalena, who is accused of having killed a hunter with a rifle. Maddalena, however, claims that she is a witch born in 1630 and has returned to life to avenge a wrong done to her. As the days pass, beset by dreams and visions, Davide gives in and comes to believe in the irrational labyrinth of Maddalena’s thoughts. In a dream, he takes part in a sabbath where he joins her in a sexual encounter.
