The story

Coway runs a well-regarded restaurant in Lyon, but a series of risky investments has brought him to the brink of bankruptcy. He remains optimistic because his wife, Milène, is expecting a child, and his generosity is evident when he hires Laurence, a young woman in trouble, as a waitress. Laurence has no experience in the job and refuses to reveal anything about her past. Another regular, Brett, contrives to be invited to the restaurant because of his extreme stinginess; he once lost the love of his life after quibbling over a trifling gift.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Coway runs a well-regarded restaurant in Lyon. His energetic temperament has led him to make a series of risky investments that have now brought him to the brink of bankruptcy. He has not lost his optimism, however, because his wife, Milène, is expecting a child, nor his customary generosity: he does not hesitate to hire a young woman in trouble as a waitress. Laurence, however, has no experience in the job and refuses to reveal even the slightest thing about her past. Among Coway’s regular customers is Brett. He contrives to get himself invited to the restaurant because he is frighteningly stingy, so much so that he lost the love of his life by quibbling over a trifling gift.
