Full plot (contains spoilers)
After spending seven years in prison, Mario Diccara is free. Having not completely settled his affairs with the underworld, he asks the only person he trusts, his brother Patrick, to find him a place to hide out and lie low for a while. Patrick, who is a priest, suggests he join Father Étienne in his small village in the Ardèche. So Mario puts on the cassock to make the journey. But trouble begins as soon as he arrives: Father Étienne has died, and the villagers mistake Mario for the new priest.
