The story
In 1840 California, the governor rules harshly, and the people continue to suffer under his regime. The first Zorro, who stood up for the poor and oppressed, was captured. His young son, Diego, was rescued and grew up with an innkeeper, alongside the innkeeper’s daughter, Mary, for 15 years. When a new Zorro appears, he interrupts bandits attacking a carriage carrying the governor’s young bride, Virginia de Santa Anna, and falls in love with her.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
1840, California: The state’s governor rules with an iron fist. When a man appears who stands up for the poor and oppressed, he quickly becomes a hero: Zorro. The governor manages to have him captured and thrown into prison, and to have his wife killed. Zorro’s young son, Diego, is rescued and grows up with an innkeeper. He is raised alongside the innkeeper’s daughter, Mary, for 15 years. The people of the region still suffer under the governor’s regime when a new Zorro appears. Among other things, he interrupts a bandit attack on a carriage carrying the governor’s young bride, Virginia de Santa Anna, and falls in love with her. Soon afterward, Zorro escapes a trap set by the governor, despite suffering an arm wound. At the tavern, soldiers find Zorro’s clothes and arrest Diego, who has an arm injury. In prison, Diego meets Juan Ortiz, his father, who only then learns that his son is alive. A few days later, Diego is released, as further actions by Zorro take place while he is in prison. Juan Ortiz also manages to escape. The governor’s wedding to Virginia is disrupted by Zorro’s three swords—Diego, Maria, and Juan. The governor is arrested by an agent of the federal government, and the ceremony then resumes; Diego takes the place of the missing groom.
