Les combattants (2014)

Arnaud works for his family’s business, which specializes in timber construction, and spends the summer by the sea. He meets Madeleine, who wants to join the army and is obsessed with the end of the world and survivalism. Hoping to get closer to her, Arnaud takes part with her in an army survival program. Madeleine is disappointed by the program and is unwilling to follow the rules without question. When the program’s participants, divided into groups, have to go on a hike lasting several days, the situation spirals out of control. When the group is asked over the radio for its coordinates, Madeleine snatches the map from Arnaud, who is leading the group, and knocks him to the ground. Arnaud then leaves the group and the program. Madeleine follows him, and the two reconcile. Determined not to turn back, they now try to survive alone in the forest. They manage to overcome the initial difficulties and grow closer. However, after eating game she caught herself, Madeleine vomits several times and falls ill. Arnaud carries her to the nearest village. It turns out that the village has been evacuated because of a forest fire. They are rescued just before the fire reaches the village and wake up in the hospital. Madeleine’s convictions remain unshaken.
