The story
In 1925, the summer calm of a peaceful Provençal village is disrupted by the arrival of four young women, a commanding chaperone, and a Senegalese rifleman. The villagers discover that the visitors are residents of a Marseille brothel, come to rest in the countryside. Their presence causes a scandal.

In 1925, in a peaceful village in Provence, the summer calm is suddenly disrupted by the unexpected arrival of four charming young women accompanied by a chaperone—a woman as beautiful as she is authoritative—and a Senegalese rifleman. The villagers soon realize that these tourists are residents of a Marseille brothel, who have come to rest in the quiet countryside. The news causes a scandal. But little by little, the “locals” are initiated into the ways of the world. A young farmer falls in love with one of the vacationers. Even the mayor is not immune to the charm of the “madam,” who is decidedly quite captivating beneath her gruff exterior...
