Two teenagers are haunted by a shapeshifting entity after undergoing a supernatural conversion ritual.

The story

After his father's death, Naim Reid and his mother Arlene move to a devout evangelical Christian town in Victoria, where Naim begins a secret romance with a local teenager named Ryan. After a conflict involving a local boy, the pair are subjected to a 'gay exorcism' ritual intended to purge them of their desires. The ritual leaves them tormented by a violent, shapeshifting entity that takes the form of the person they love most. As the entity grows stronger and more dangerous, Naim and Ryan must navigate the escalating supernatural threat while dealing with the consequences of the ritual and the isolation of their environment.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Naim and Ryan are subjected to a 'gay exorcism' ritual that summons a shapeshifting entity. The entity takes the form of the person the victim desires most. After the ritual, Ryan is physically assaulted by the entity, and Naim discovers that the entity is stalking them both. They learn from a girl named Marnie that the entity is inescapable and grows stronger over time. After a series of escalating attacks, including the mutilation of Ryan's ear and the death of Hunter, Naim and Ryan attempt to find a way to stop it. They eventually realize that the entity is a direct consequence of the ritual. In a final confrontation, Naim traps the entity in a derelict mill and sets it ablaze. While Naim believes he may have killed the real Ryan, he eventually finds the real Ryan at a bus stop. The two decide to leave the town together, choosing to ignore the entity as it appears outside their bus.
