Full plot (contains spoilers)
Lola Montez is a young, fiery dancer in Spain at the beginning of the 19th century. She is the rising star of Madrid’s theatrical scene. Lola turns the heads of all the men in the city, including high-ranking foreigners such as the English envoy, Sir Eduards. But her fellow countryman Madons, leader of the notorious Carlist movement, a band of feared desperados, abducts her to his castle and proposes to her. Lola still holds back, but secretly she is strongly attracted to the daring Madons. Since the English ambassador plans to improve Spanish-British relations, he sends his spies to obtain information from Lola Montez about her future bridegroom, so that they can pass it on to the Spanish government, which is very keen to capture Madons. Thanks to this information, the Carlist is captured by the Spanish and sentenced to death. As the procession taking him to his execution, accompanied by crowds of onlookers, passes Lola’s window, Madons briefly breaks away from his guards and rushes onto Lola’s balcony to embrace his beloved one last time. A shot rings out, and the bandit chief sinks to the ground, mortally wounded.
