The story

After Skip receives polyurethane wheels, he forms the Zephyr skate team. The team becomes a success, winning many contests. Full plot (contains spoilers)

In the mid-1970s, Tony Alva, Stacy Peralta, and Jay Adams form the Zephyr skate team in Dogtown, California, using new polyurethane wheels to revolutionize the sport. They gain fame and begin sneaking into backyard pools during a drought. The group's cohesion is tested when commercial interests begin to pull them apart; Tony and Stacy eventually leave Skip's team for lucrative offers, while Jay stays for the passion of the sport. As they become celebrities, they become rivals. Following a series of events including a fire at the pier and personal struggles, the boys eventually find their own paths. The film concludes with the three men reuniting to visit their friend Sid, who is in a wheelchair due to a brain tumor, and they skate together one last time in an empty pool, honoring their shared history before the final credits reveal their real-life accomplishments.
