Full plot (contains spoilers)
Tito, Ella’s partner, is in a coma after a car accident and is being kept alive only by machines. His doctor proposes a new, unconventional treatment: Ella is to enter Tito’s subconscious and use emotions to stimulate his brain activity. There she meets her husband, who does not recognize her but instead takes on various roles from the screenplays he has written, in a range of scenarios—including one with Nazis during the Second World War, one with pirates on the high seas, one in the Wild West, and one with Mafia members. Meanwhile, Ella tries to bring back his memories of their love for each other. In doing so, she puts her own life in danger. When she asks Father Roland for advice on what she should do to make Tito fall in love with her again, he says that perhaps love means letting go.
