The story

Eroll, Lars and Helmut flee their consumer-minded wives and set up a hideout in the central-heating basement of their new housing development. Surrounded by pin-up girls and table football, they watch soccer on a big screen, eat fast food and drink canned beer while complaining about their wives. The men regard the basement as a haven where they can pursue their hobbies. Their secret is discovered by Aykut, the building caretaker, and they must fight to keep the hideout. Aykut, too, begins to devise a plan to escape his wife.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Fleeing their consumer-minded wives, Eroll, Lars and Helmut hole up in a central-heating basement on the outskirts of their new housing development, where they have created a last enclave of masculinity. Here, surrounded by pin-up girls and table football, they can indulge their hobbies without a care: they watch soccer on a big screen over fast food and canned beer, and complain about their unreasonable wives—truly a haven for men! But one day, when the building caretaker, Aykut, discovers their secret, they have to fight to keep their hideout—until the exasperated Aykut also hatches a plan to escape his wife. Before long, though, their idyll begins to crumble, and the men realize they have really only been fooling themselves. Lars, who had thought he was in an open marriage and was happy with it, wants nothing more than to be with Anne, especially since she is about to give birth to their first child. Helmut confesses to his friends that he is gay, and Eroll separates from his wife, Connie. The three then disband their men's hideout and finally live the way they had always really hoped to: Lars as a family man, knowing that Eroll is the father of Anne's child because he himself is infertile; Helmut openly acknowledging his relationship with his boyfriend, Alex; and Eroll enjoying his newfound freedom and setting off into the world.
