Marga Engel schlägt zurück (2001)

Cook Marga Engel works at a country inn in Bavaria. The topping-out ceremony for the new house she had built ends in tragedy for her, because it is only then that she realizes she has been defrauded by the construction company Ohrmann. Enraged by the injustice done to her, she drives to the company’s headquarters in Leipzig, but gets nowhere because she does not have an appointment. At the employment office, an elegant woman hires her on the spot, urgently needing a good cook. So Marga ends up working as a cook for none other than the contractor Ohrmann. After she has gone shopping in Ohrmann’s car, the car is sabotaged. There she notices the lawyer Dr. Schöller, who, after they talk, is also revealed to be a victim of Ohrmann’s fraud. Ohrmann, who has no friends, entrusts Marga with a bag of documents. After a raid has taken place, Marga returns the bag, but she has made copies. She asks Ohrmann to turn himself in; then he would face only one year in prison. He agrees and goes into pretrial detention, which he regards with relief. Later, Henning Gössel wants to take over the company. Marga and Dr. Schöller are able to prove that there have been more extensive illegal activities. Exasperated, Gössel signs an admission of guilt. Finally, Marga and Dr. Schöller live in the gardener’s cottage on Ohrmann’s large estate.
