Full plot (contains spoilers)
Commissioner Mark Terzi arrives in Genoa to investigate the systematic murders of prominent local figures. The perpetrator signs these killings “The Sphinx.” A certain Benzi, president of a banking consortium, is kidnapped. Unfortunately, Mark is unable to identify the masterminds and is forced to confront the small fry in dangerous shootouts on the streets of Genoa and Savona. In the end, the commissioner discovers that the Sphinx is just a poor fellow who wanted revenge on Benzi and his accomplices, who were responsible for the death of his fiancée. She died on their wedding day following the collapse of a roadway support pier built by Benzi’s company and his associates. The man is killed because of the sharpshooters’ zeal, but Terzi, rather embittered, brings the greedy Benzi to justice.
