Full plot (contains spoilers)
Anna Brokate, a single woman from Berlin, is an elementary school teacher. Her students don’t listen to her, and she is overwhelmed by her job and at the end of her tether. Thilo Kranz is an actor who is still known to some for his role as Manni in the film “Kopf durch die Wand,” but he hasn’t landed a role in a long time. He now has to make ends meet with odd jobs, such as selling wine over the phone. On top of that, his girlfriend Katja has just left him, and he is troubled by sudden memory lapses that sometimes leave him unable to remember where he is or what he was going to do. Anna’s friend Valerie and Thilo’s friend Moritz are a couple, and they bring Anna and Thilo together at a get-together. Valerie has just returned to work after spending two years looking after their child. Because of this, her husband Moritz has to take the night shift at the print shop so he can look after Emily during the day. At their first meeting, in a restaurant, Anna has a breakdown at the thought of her job and flees. Thilo, however, has already fallen in love with her. When Thilo calls Anna from work and his supervisor comes over, Thilo pretends he is making a sales call. When Anna’s father answers the phone, he plays along and gives Thilo a major sales success by ordering seven cases of wine. Thilo then learns from his friend Florian that Florian is dating Thilo’s ex-girlfriend Katja. But Florian soon breaks things off with Katja when he realizes that it is serious and that she has fallen in love with him. Only later do we learn that Florian broke up with Katja because he is seriously ill with a muscular disorder and did not want to burden her with it. At their next meeting, in a restaurant, Thilo briefly goes to the bathroom. When he comes out, he has another lapse and can’t remember why he is there. When Florian runs into him, Thilo goes with him and leaves Anna sitting alone. Katja later tells Florian that she is pregnant by him, and they get back together. After Thilo’s supervisor suggests that he present himself as an actor—that he would be playing a wine seller—Thilo suddenly finds success. Anna quits the job at the school that she dislikes, finds work at a bookshop, and starts tutoring students, but only one-on-one. Valerie and Moritz arrange a meeting for Anna and Thilo under a pretext, and the two eventually become a couple.
