An interfaith couple’s pregnancy turns their previously easygoing relationship into a clash between family expectations and religious principles.
The story
Clara and Ismaël are happily in love and largely unconcerned that she is Jewish and he is Muslim. Their relationship changes when Clara becomes pregnant and the reactions of those around them bring religious differences to the fore. Both families assert their faith, while Clara and Ismaël—previously indifferent to their own religions—begin arguing and invoking religious principles as they confront the complications of their situation. Clara’s aunt, who has experienced a painful love affair and breakup, is the only person described as supporting them. Whether the couple can navigate these tensions remains uncertain.
