In a world ravaged by a virus, a group of survivors must infiltrate a fortified city to find a cure and save their friends.
The story
Thomas, Newt, and Frypan, the last of the free "Gladers," join with the Right Arm resistance to retrieve other Immunes from a train operated by WCKD, the organization responsible for capturing and experimenting on these children. After learning that their friend Minho is being held in the "Last City," WCKD's base of operations, the trio defies orders to travel there. They face off against Cranks—humans infected with the Flare—and navigate a dangerous landscape to reach the fortified city. Upon arrival, they must navigate a complex web of alliances and enemies to rescue their friends and find a way to stop the ongoing catastrophe.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Thomas, Newt, and Frypan join the Right Arm to rescue Immunes and their friend Minho from WCKD's 'Last City.' They are joined by Jorge and Brenda after an attack by Cranks. They meet Gally and Lawrence, who help them enter the city. Inside, Newt reveals he is infected by the Flare. Gally and Thomas work to find a serum while Teresa discovers Thomas's blood can cure the Flare. While Lawrence sacrifices himself to breach the city walls, the group faces internal and external threats. Newt, nearly consumed by the Flare, eventually takes his own life after Thomas refuses to let him be 'cured' by WCKD. Thomas confronts the leader, Paige, and defeats Janson. In the final moments, the group escapes to a safe haven island, while Teresa falls to her death during the escape. Thomas finds a note from Newt in a pendant, thanking him for his friendship.
