When Nora and Aron met on a rainy day in the subway, it was love at first sight. Aron believed their meeting was destined. They have now been together for two years and are still very much in love. Through bad luck, they get caught up in a bank robbery. A shot is fired at Aron, and he dies in Nora’s arms. In the days that follow, she tries to numb her pain and is prone to reckless behavior. Twice, a stranger named Natan rescues her from dangerous situations. Natan’s daughter, Ava, has leukemia and needs expensive treatment, which Natan has to pay for privately after losing his health insurance along with his job as a supermarket night watchman. Desperate because he cannot help his daughter, he robs the bank with his buddy Maxi. He is the one who shoots Aron, believing his gun is loaded only with blanks. After Nora and Natan spend a night together, Nora is horrified to recognize him in the bank’s surveillance footage and begins tracking him down. In the process, she learns about Ava’s illness. To explain her presence at the hospital, she gets tested to see if she is suitable as a stem-cell donor. Once she realizes that Natan robbed the bank only to help his daughter, she gives up any thought of revenge or prosecution, especially since she may be a donor for Ava. The three storylines (Nora and Aron, Natan and Ava, and Nora and Natan) are told out of chronological order, through shifting time jumps and flashbacks. The story of Nora and Aron is even told in reverse: after a brief introduction, the film begins with the bank robbery and Aron’s death. It ends with Aron observing, when they first meet, that their names are reversals of each other: his ending is her beginning.
