A mischievous spirit freed from a bottle must grant a hotel employee five wishes despite having lost his magic.
The story
After repeatedly going too far and breaking the laws governing spirits, the good spirit Eddie is sentenced by the High Council of Spirits to remain a genie in a bottle until someone frees him. More than 100 years later, hotel employee Paula releases him. Eddie has lost his magical powers, but must grant Paula five wishes. At first, Paula thinks he is merely a random crackpot, so Eddie tries to convince her by fulfilling her initial wishes. Without magic, however, he resorts to brute force, creating the risk that his attempts to help her will bring him into conflict with the authorities in the human world.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After the good spirit Eddie repeatedly goes too far and violates the laws governing spirits, the High Council of Spirits sentences him to spend his existence as a genie in a bottle until he is freed. When hotel employee Paula frees him more than 100 years later, Eddie has no idea what lies ahead: stripped of his magical powers, he now has to grant his mistress five wishes. This proves difficult in itself because Paula initially thinks he is just some random crackpot. To convince her otherwise, Eddie grants her first wishes, but, lacking magical powers, resorts to brute force—and thus risks coming into conflict with the authorities in the human world as well.
