Meine schöne Tochter (2004)

After a swimming accident in which her mother died and she herself nearly drowned, Gilda’s mental development remained at the level of a nine-year-old child. The 17-year-old lives in Vienna with her father, Charli, who works as a singer at a traditional wine tavern. Charli largely shuts his daughter off from the outside world and has hired Anna to look after her so that Gilda is not home alone while he is working. For her 18th birthday, Gilda goes on a trip to the seaside with her grandmother. There she meets Philip by chance, the son of Charli’s boss, Gretl, and falls in love with him. Back in Vienna, Gilda secretly goes to the tavern where her father works one evening. There she sees Philip again. He takes her to his room and wants to sleep with her. When Charli comes home that night and cannot find Gilda, he calls Anna, who tells him that Gilda went to the tavern. He finds Gilda sitting and crying in a corner of Philip’s room. He carries her out. In the final scene, Charli and Gilda are riding in a hot-air balloon, which Charli causes to explode by turning the valve on a gas cylinder.
